Terms & Conditions

Overview

These Terms & Conditions govern your rental agreement with Valley Self Storage & Warehousing Ltd. located at 1297 Ridge Road, Wolfville, Nova Scotia B4P 2R1. By renting a storage unit, you agree to be bound by these terms.

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Changes will be communicated via email and posted to our website. Continued use of our facilities after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Rental Agreement

Month-to-Month Rental: All storage rentals are on a month-to-month basis. There is no long-term commitment required. Your rental continues automatically each month until you provide notice of move-out.

Online Account Required: An online account is required for all rentals. Your account is used to manage billing, payment methods, and move-out requests.

Unit Assignment: The specific unit rented is assigned at the time of checkout and cannot be changed without our approval. Unit availability is subject to change.

Billing & Payment

Monthly Billing: Rent is due on the 1st of each month. Payment is automatically charged to the credit card on file.

First Month Proration: Your first month's rent is prorated based on your move-in date. For example, if you move in on the 15th, you will be charged for the remaining days of that month only. Full rent begins on the 1st of the following month.

Payment Method: A valid credit card is required for all rentals. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Other payment arrangements may be approved on a case-by-case basis by contacting our office.

HST: All rental prices are subject to 15% HST (Harmonized Sales Tax), which is added to your monthly rent.

Access & Security

24/7 Access: Renters have access to their storage units 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Access may be restricted if your account is past due.

Your Lock: You must provide your own padlock to secure your unit. The facility does not have keys or access to individual units. If you lose your key, you are responsible for cutting your lock and replacing it.

Facility Security: The facility is fenced and monitored by surveillance cameras. However, we cannot guarantee the security of your belongings and recommend obtaining insurance coverage.

Prohibited Items & Uses

The following items and activities are strictly prohibited:

  • Hazardous materials, explosives, or flammable substances
  • Illegal items or controlled substances
  • Perishable food items
  • Living creatures (animals or plants)
  • Items with strong odors
  • Using the unit as a residence or for commercial operations
  • Subleasing or sharing your unit with others

Violation of these rules may result in immediate termination of your rental without refund.

Liability & Insurance

Limited Liability: Valley Self Storage & Warehousing Ltd. is not liable for any loss, theft, or damage to your stored belongings, whether caused by fire, water, weather, pests, vandalism, or any other cause.

Insurance Requirement: We strongly recommend that you insure your stored belongings. Check with your homeowner's or renter's insurance provider to see if your policy covers items in storage. You may also purchase standalone storage insurance.

No Insurance Provided: The facility does not provide insurance for your belongings. You store items at your own risk.

Late Fees & Non-Payment

Late Payment: If rent is not received by the due date (1st of the month), a late fee will be applied to your account.

Access Restriction: If your account remains past due, access to your unit may be restricted until payment is received.

Lien & Auction: Continued non-payment may result in a lien being placed on your stored belongings. After the legally required notice period, items may be sold at auction to recover unpaid rent and fees, in accordance with Nova Scotia law.

Collection: Unpaid balances may be sent to a collection agency, which could affect your credit rating.

Move-Out Procedures

Notice: To end your rental, submit a move-out request through your online account. We recommend doing this before the end of your current billing cycle to avoid being charged for the following month.

No Partial Refunds: Rent is not refundable for partial months. If you move out mid-month, you are responsible for that month's full rent.

Unit Condition: Remove all belongings and your lock before your move-out date. Leave the unit empty and clean. Any items left behind will be disposed of at your expense.
